Erlese Caruth from A Place For Me Counseling is here to share her best advice on strengthening your relationship with your children.

What is the most common problem your clients have with their children? angrykid

Trust. It shows up initially as a communication problem – I hear statements like, “I can’t get my child to communicate with me.”

What is the first step to solving that particular problem?

Ensure that your child has a safe place to be his or her true self and speak without judgment, no matter how difficult the issues are.

Tell us a memorable healing moment you’ve seen in your practice.

huggingI had a 13-year-old girl who would always say, “I just can’t talk to my mom.” We discovered that she overheard her mom talking about not wanting to have children. We created a safe place for them to share honestly and grow.

What have you learned form parenting?

My relationship with my daughters has taught me that, through parenting, we gradually emerge stronger, more confident and able to face challenges that arise.
